So today I solved the case problem for the 480. Thanks to local Forum member Dan M., I bought his new vintage reissue case for the 350V63 model.
To accomodate the larger top horn of the 480, I moved the accessory compartment edge piece over to the left about 5 inches. The 350 case is the exact length and width for the 480 ... just had to make the adjustment for the top horn. So it's now as snug as a bug in its new silver home with blue interior!

Two more cut up 480's on eBay, there's been a sudden influx of these. Could be a good opportunity for someone who wants a 480 but dosen't want to pay the prices they've been fetching lately.

I think I saw a 480 on e-bay in Canada yesterday, asking $2000.

There's an odd piece up on ebay right now, listed as the neck from a 480. But it has deluxe inlays, and the frets arn't slanted. So it can't be from a 480 or a 481. Maybe it's from the 6-string side of a 4080?
I'm really tempted to bid on this, because it's the same finish as my 480. It appears to be identical... then I could have deluxe inlays on the 480 and it would still be genuine Rick parts.

Go for it, Erik! I think that's a great idea, and it would be a great looking and all-original 480.

Cool idea, and the price of that neck is not crazily bid up at this point.

Oh it's going to get up there... but i'm in it to win it. It would probably be less if it didn't have that black TRC, but I figure I can sell that (since I don't need it) and recoup some of the expense, since I know i'm going to wind up overpaying.
You only live once, though. And the chances of another parted out, good condition, 4080 neck in AutumnGlo ever turning up again is probably one to a million.

It was sitting at 250, then somebody dropped a bid for 400$. Seems a little fishy... but whatever. Sitting at 449$ right now, still the high bidder. I'm going to pay way too much for this but i'm not backing off.

Good luck on that auction ... too bad
that so many bidders jumped in for this neck.

So the seller just sent me some pictures that I requested which he 'neglected' to include in the auction, and i'm seriously rethinking my decision. 450$ for a neck and I kind of expect it to be pristine, you know? I was already sucking it up with the extra screw holes that some idiot drilled all over the back of the headstock but it's just not worth it with all thats wrong with it.

I guess the $400 bid was cancelled?

I pulled my bids. With the extra holes drilled all over the back of the headstock, and now with the fingerboard popping off... forget it. The guy said his tech inspected it and "tried to wiggle the fretboard but couldn't, so it's fine".

Erik, glad you didn't get ripped-off by something that was not as good as originally advertised.
