Headstocks, And Nothing But

Post by Grey »

That's the name of the game. Come one, come all. Bass, Guitar, 6 or 12. As long as the Headstock is the center of attention, it's welcome here.

Mine are all in the Register, so I'll post a few links:

Here's "Mojo Guy," my '73 4001 with the non-exploding type of wavy Grover:

And lastly, the "pregnant dog" headstock of my '98 4003S/8:

And my prized 8-stringer

If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

This one's a bit rough and has plenty of "battle scars", but it plays like a dream... 8)

Looks like that first fret is a ways down on the fingerboard (last pic - fireglo).

I really like how those slots are cut for the truss rod nuts, instead of a giant hole. Wish mine was like that.

Well, as you may notice, there are no adjusting nuts there either. That's because these are the "old style" folded rods and the adjusting nuts are at the body end instead of at the headstock (as done on the 4001). This was done on early 4003 basses before they came up with the new truss rod system and put them back at the headstock, where they are much easier to deal with...

Yeah, it's about 33.25 inches down the fingerboard...

Actually I haden't noticed I thought the shadow was hiding the nut or something. Regardless, I still like that headstock. Although I may be a bit biased since it shares the same type of 'wave' as my 480. (sharper, more defined crest)
