FS: 1968 4001 MG, well...Kinda Sorta ;)

Post by walker »

It's served me well over the years, but I think it's time to pass this one on to whoever else may be interested in having a great '60s vintage bass in great condition. Financial necessity is part of the incentive for putting this one up for sale, but I also believe that I should be able to play everything I own, and this one just doesn't get played very often. I figure that someone else who is able to put some consistent miles on it should give it a go.

The bass has no issues of concern in integrity or playability. No cracks or damage in the wood, separation of pieces, or rust on any of the hardware or harness. There is a little bit of a worn patch on the back of the body, and a small spot on the front by the tailpiece. There ARE aging crackles in the finish, but personally I like the effect. Most '60s vintage basses have developed these. The bass is completely stock EXCEPT FOR THE FRETBOARD, which has been refretted and refinished. The job was done by Mike Lull (in approx 1995.)

Weighing the bass's solid condition vs natural depreciation & wear, I'd like to see $4,500.00 for it. OHSC included.

For those who haven't heard the bass in action, here are some videos I've shot recently:

Aw man! If I only wasn't going to spend all of my "extra" cash (and then some) to go to BARC...
Hmmm...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Gorgeous bass, and great videos!

Excellent song choices, too. You really nailed Squire's crunchy bark. Great playing.

It's funny - I used to get really bugged-out over those truss rod trenches routed past the neck pickup cavity like that. When I first saw them, I thought: "Man! Who the hell DID such a careless thing???" But now I just laugh it off upon knowing the answer to that question!

HA!

APRIL FOOLS!

*ahem* Yeah. I'll bet I fooled zero percent of the people zero percent of the time with that one. Not the most original gag, I know, but what the heck... I haven't pulled any April Fool's chicanery in decades, so I figured I'd take a crack at it this time. Maybe I'll try it again when I can catch folks more off-guard, like on July Fools Day. Yeah! That's the ticket.

Yikes! Well, I guess it's true what they say: "It's always fun until someone gets hurt or blows all their money on a bass that isn't really for sale."

Full Mark on the April Fools. A gorgeous bass with magic hands. A winning combination.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
