Hello

Post by harveyrickenbacker »

Hello,

I recently discovered the rickresource forum. A great source of info on rickenbackers and also on 60's garage rock, one of my other passions.

I first realised how cool ricks looked as a teenager when the Jam were my favourite band and Paul Weller had one. I had to have what Weller had so when the local music shop got a 481 in I put it on layby! Shame it wasn't a 330 but this was close enough. This was late 70's and the music shop was the Burnie Music Centre in tassie. Even with the weird slanted frets this guitar served me well for several years.

When I moved to Melbourne in the mid 80's I discovered the Trading Post and picked up a 1967 365. Unfortunately the 481 had to go to pay for it. The 365 was a great guitar and wish I still had it but sometime in the late 80's I was misled :( and decided a Telecaster was the sound I was after. So the 365 had to go!

I still have the Tele and that and a Maton CW80 acoustic were my only guitars for about 20 years. About 4 years back I started buying guitar mags again and convinced my wife that investing in guitars made more sense than investing in shares (how right was I!!). What woman doesn't love the look of a rickenbacker so she has encouraged me as I try and build a collection. I currently have 2 x 360's ( a 1973 and a recent one), a 360-12 and a 660-12. Will be on the lookout for some additions over the coming years and would love to get another 365 and 481. Back to the start again!

The bar is closed, so here i am.
Hi Harvey, welcome to the forum.
Having had the pleasure of meeting you this week in person, (Harvey purchased my 330 case!), a finer place containing all things Rickenbacker you will not find.
Plenty of Aussies here, and plenty of international members who go out of their way to help you in all manner possible.
I have the feeling that you and Howard Bishop, (Aitch), will hit it off immediately.
My band, '77 Sandman, are playing in Mitcham next Saturday night, so if you're free, there'll be a few ricks onstage, and forum members present!
Talk soon Harvey,
Greg

Thanks for the welcome everybody. Good to receive responses from various parts of the globe.

It was good meeting you the other day Greg and thanks for the case and the info re the forum. I'll try and get along to see your band play. Wish I could drive over to Mitcham in a 77 Sandman :) As much as I wanted one back in the day I couldn't afford that and the rickenbacker as well so had to settle for a beat up VW fastback that wouldn't stay on the road as my first car!

Is that the time :o Better get back to the pub then.......

Welcome, Harvey!

We love pictures here, so if you get a chance, please post some of your Rickenbackers. :)
