Russian "Rickenbacker artists"

Post by sowhat »

What i've found for now. I know of a few more local musicians who play(ed) Ricks, but have found no proof (i. e. video evidence) yet.
X3 (sorry, i won't be translating their name cause it may sound inappropriate for the forum)

Grazhdanskaya Oborona (Civil Defense)

On to Russian Rickenbacker pop artists.
Tokio — Мы будем вместе (We're gonna be together) — i do hope it was a joke or a parody. The tune is "stolen", the leadsinger's image too.

And — well, this band hasn't been mentioned in this section yet, so why not? Секрет — Алиса (Alice). Done live, so please don't be too harsh.

Oops. Looks like it was my 5000th post. Well, i had nothing special to say anyway.

The first one of the pop songs strikes me as tongue-in-cheek, definitely, perhaps a send-up of Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible", from my perspective. I like the vowels popping out of their mouths  Who do you believe they're parodying?

"Alisa" is a great song, and I can see that Sekret have a devoted following.

And congratulations on #5000, Sheena!

This is the original song.

And they're perhaps also parodying Depeche Mode. At least, the lead singer.

Me too. At least, it's funny in a way.

Oh yeah, nevermind it's a rip off the Beatles' "Michelle". Well, no surprise given the band was/is parodying the Beatles...

Something that was a surprise for me, i must say. While collecting video material about perhaps the most famous Soviet rock band, Машина времени (Time Machine), i've found this.
Sunny island

And this.
The cat (who walks all by herself)

If translation is needed, just shout.

I really like the first song, Sunny Island, the other one is a bit too pop for my tastes.

Sunny island (You or me) (A. Makarevich)
Everything's very simple - fairy tale is a lie.
A sunny island has disappeared in the mist.
Air castles are not supported by the Earth.
Somebody's made a mistake - you or me.

Everything's very simple - there's no golden mountains.
The stars are falling in others' hands.
There's no bird of paradise among the crows.
Somebody's made a mistake - you or me.

Only at Spring the snows are melting.
And even the sea has its shores.
The faith alone will warm us.
Somebody will be on time - you or me?

Another Rick spotted. From the New Year show, 2004. A Russian "folk-rock" band from Ekaterinburg called Чайф (impossible to translate) as the Russian "folk-rock" band from Ekaterinburg called Чайф and (surprise, surprise) bass player from Секрет as a fiddler.
Прощай, детка (Bye, baby) (by Mike Naumenko from the band Zoopark)

Great music. The guitarist with the Börg implants has an "interesting" jacket! Nice Lakland bass, too. :D

The metal parts attached to his fingers look they could be from the Börg, a race of aliens that assimilate other races into their own. They first appeared in the Star Trek: Next Generation TV series in the '80s.
