If you have children you wonder sometimes if you are doing things right...It's human nature to second guess yourself at times, right? Today I got a small confirmation that we've done something right.

Today on the way home, my six year-old daughter Maddy told me she had a conversation with her best friend at school today. They were talking about their favorite musicians. Her friend claimed Hannah Montana. Maddy said her favorite is Tom Petty. Then she sang a bit of "The Waiting" to her.

She also told me that Hannah Montana isn't real anyway...she is really Miley Cyrus... :P

Petty is more superior to HM. All of the names of her episodes are song titles. Strangely, no Petty song has become an episode title yet.

Since we're on a Disney stars and Petty discussion here, Demi Lovato (famous for her show "Sonny With a Chance" and movie "Camp Rock") said sometime last year before playing The Wiltern, "I think The Clash were here, and Tom Petty was here". She was correct, the (out of print) video "Pack Up the Plantation" shows TP and the Heartbreakers playing the Wiltern. Good on Demi for knowing that fact, and for being aware of TP.

So, I should choose one of the other? Or does that statement go without saying?

I wouldn't admit to knowing that much about Hanna Montana.

A friend of mine, about my age, knows everything there is to know about HM. And I first learned about the song titles when she revealed a couple episodes named after Beatles song.

I'm not lying. I have a bunch of female friends who are into the Disney ****. A bunch of them all got together just to watch High School Musical 2 the night it premiered. My best friends Jacob and Max said, "Who would want to watch that? Not us!"

I've felt it was a parental duty to take our daughters to two Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concerts over the last four years, in furtherance of their education and appreciation of artists utilizing 8) Rickenbackers and Vox amps. :D 8) ....Family values !
(P.S. they knew the words and could sing along to every song, too !)

The first two concerts I took my son to were Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and then Eric Clapton. He's picked up bass and now has a really good musical foundation to build on. It's really funny when he talks about "old school" funk.

Son, that was dating music when I was your age. ;)
