Tom Petty & Heartbreakers on SNL finale May 15th

Post by 8mileshigher »

TP and the boys will be doing their 8th appearance on Saturday Night Live, season finale, next Saturday,May 15th. This is their first live appearance since the Superbowl in 2008.

The new album "Mojo" is supposed to be released on June 15th, so likely we will get a preview of some of the new material on their SNL appearance.

This is TP's first SNL appearance in 10 years. Good to see Lorne Michaels never stopped liking him. :)

You should be able to catch TP+H here: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/ ... t/1228190/

And here: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/ ... s/1228188/

I didn't care for either of their numbers. All Gibson guitars and the tunes they performed had repetitive, simple riffs that sounded like the late'70s Marshall Tucker Band.

Mike Campbell is looking more like Alice Cooper and Tom like Gregg Allman.

Whazzup?

The boys failed to impress me last night, at least the first number. I didn't know the names of either of the songs, and Tom wasn't playing guitar at all! This was very strange for me. I fell asleep before the second number...was Tom playing an Epi Casino with a Bigsby for that song? I also recall Tom using a MODERN Fender Vibro King amp. Tom wasn't a fan of modern equipment, why is he converting now? I do like the Vibro-Kings, don't get me wrong, but a Twin Reverb, I thought, would be more up his alley. No Rics at all! Are they turning into The Rolling Stones on us?

I never really care much for TPATH, but Campbell's '59 Lester looked pretty dang good.

Yeah, that wasn't too bad at all. I watched it here: http://www.tompetty.com/news/title/watc ... ers-on-snl

Jake, that was a Gibson that Tom played in the second number. Looked like an ES 335 to me. 8)

I was a bit disappointed... :( their choice of material lacked some of the TP&HB magic that we have come to enjoy over the decades.

Well, I watched it over Hulu link and I enjoyed the songs. The second number really reminded me of the old Yardbirds.

Looks like Mike was using his Princeton Reverb and Tweed Deluxe. I think Scott was using a Tweed Deluxe for his harp, I dunno what amp head he had on top of the Fender cabinet.

I am now looking forward to the concert tour. Looks like ZZ Top is opening in San Diego and 3rd row should be outstanding.

Hey! I can understand what he's saying...doesn't sound THAT terrible...

Looks like Mike's playing a Pete Townshend SG.
