I await with high anticipation for this release! Due out in early summer, it is a return to the Heartbreaker's rock 'n' roll roots.

Here's what rolling stone has to say:

It's a great band. Great production - builds up wonderfully. Someone knows how to arrange a song. Liked the switch to the one-kick-drum-per-beat at 1:42. Great sounding guitars. Tight. Understated bass.

Not much of a song though.

I'm a bit tired of Tom's voice affectations. Wish he'd sing it more straight - his normal voice is so fine.

And got it today. Watch this space for a review...heard a couple of songs on Spotify last week and really enjoyed them.

My personal favorite is Forgotten Man...Great track...

Overall, an album that grows on you. Initial listening experience brought "tame" reviews. It's in constant rotation now, and has some stellar lead playing by Mike Campbell on every track...
The vinyl version is in my future....

I've spent about a week with the album, and I've enjoyed it immensely. It's a stylistic return to form, but it still sounds like current Tom Petty.

+1. Thanks, Mark! Took the words out of my mouth.

The best song on here is "U Get Me High". The guitars on that track are so raunchy. "Full Grown Boy" (the only track on the album to feature a Rickenbacker 12-string, and it's played by Scott Thurston), is another great song. The way Tom sings it, just sends shivers down my spine.

All in all an album that proves that after 39 years, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers still have it. 4.5/5.

Got to hear the 5.1 surround sound mix today. Like the previous two surround mixes, it's not intense, and doesn't really engulf you in to the listening experience (The Who's Tommy or The Dark Side Of The Moon 5.1 mixes best describe what I'm talking about). What it does is that it just opens up the musicians' playing a bit more and sounds as if the band's set up and is playing in your home theater. You can hear the nuances of everyone's playing much better than in a standard stereo mix. Benmont Tench's keyboard tracks, in particular, always sound the best in a surround sound mix and are what I look forward to when I get a Tom Petty surround sound mix. As for the album itself, it's almost as if this surround sound mix made a great album even better!

In conclusion, if you want this album, and you have a Blu-Ray player complete with home theater surround sound system, GET THE BLU-RAY VERSION!!!
