Any chance for a MMT Painted 4001 in the future?

Post by craig55 »

OK, ok...we have covered this a bit, but I still reserve some hope that John Hall will get Paul to sanction this!
Who else would be in line to buy a top notch bass with a great paint job?
Well John?
Any chance?
Perhaps a donation to one of Maccas favorite charities?
It's my hope for the holidays!

I have a 4001C64 with Paul W. now. He will be giving it the MMT treatment. I believe that McCartney copyrighted the paint job so mass reproduction seems unlikely. I can't confirm that to be the case, but I believe it to be.

Uh oh ... can o' worms time. If Paul did copyright the paint job, then anyone who has copied it is in trouble ...

Can you copyright a paint job??

Only if you are under the influence of LSD at the time you copyright it.

I'd think you'd be fine as long it's a right handed bass....the paint job would be the complete opposite of Sir Paul's... :D :D

Yes...a thorny area. I can't find any info on this pattern having been copyrighted, despite a fair amount of online research.

Brian's bass will be substantially identical, with a few changes that we've agreed upon already.

Hang in there, Buddy...good things are on the way...it's been stripped and is in line for Booth Time, soon after Michael's.

I'm hanging in there Paul. No worries! I can't wait, but I can wait. You know what I mean? By the way, let me know when you're ready for Michael's pick ups. They are at my home in San Francisco. I can have them dropped by anytime. Let me know how things are doing when you have a moment.

As for the copyright issue I thought I read that here. I will have to go back and check. I thought it was JH who stated that it was a copyright issue. I must be getting old. I can't remember anything anymore. What were we talking about?

Well, it's finally here. I posted these pictures in the Reflections of a Curmudgeon section but I thought I would update this section as well. Wonderful job, Paul. Everything I had hoped for and had expected from you.
