Great one Jeff! Some of my favorite Beatles sounds there; Hohner Pianet, Vox AC 30 (It's Only Love?) and, of course, the Rick, with capo (Michelle?).

While clearing out some old stuff I found this cover to a 16 Magazine from back in the day. Belonged to my sister and a true relic, I'm sure...

We're all familiar with the 'Atom Beat' from Pete Best's tenure with The Beatles.

In Mersey Beat, Bill Harry wrote "I was to sadly write a brief obituary to my friend Stuart, see Pete Best, creator of the 'Atom Beat' turfed out of the band, watch as Ringo from one of my favourite groups became a Beatle"

"Pete was to say, "When we came back from Germany I was playing using my bass drum very loud and laying down a very solid beat. This was unheard of at the time in Liverpool as all the groups were playing the Shadows' style. Even Ringo in Rory Storm's group copied our beat and it wasn't long before most drummers in Liverpool were playing the same style. This way of drumming had a great deal to do with the big sound we were producing." This beat was referred to as "The Atom Beat".

Other comments
"There had never been a single complaint about his drumming and he had developed the 'Atom Beat', which other drummers had copied"

"Pete Best was The Beatles drummer from 1960 to 1962.He was with them in Hamburg as he developed his own distinctive "atom beat sound".

That's why I was surprised to come across this (page 71 from Lewisohn's "The Beatles Live!") .... an ad for a Feb 11 1961 gig at the Cassanova Club claiming the Atom beat for Ringo and his band. If the other bands were coping Pete's Atom Beat, they sure did it very fast as The Beatles' famous post Hamburg Litherland Town Hall gig was a mere 6 weeks earlier.

Difficult to put those pieces together. Obviously the Atom Beat was a big enough deal that different groups were laying claim to creating the sound. History would seem to give Pete the edge on that front.
It's a good thing that Ringo could play the Ray Charles beat.
Ringo and Pete could give a great joint interview!
