I sure haven't. Is it online somewhere?
Re: John Lennon 1980 V81
I did see it online about 10 years ago. I originally saw it in a magazine or newspaper shortly after John was Killed.
I tried to track it down with some famous photographers and Bob Gruen was kind enough to tell me he
knew the picture and told me Annie Took it.
I remember when I first saw it back in 1981 and thinking to myself John was trying to be New Wave
by wearing a thin black tie, like he was copying The Knack

Who's the guy on the right, Kira?
Re: John Lennon 1980 V81
I had hoped for some serious posts.
Re: John Lennon 1980 V81
Sorry, Damon, I was actually trying to contribute something with this pic. It's puzzled me for a long time - John went through his skinny period, '73-'74, when he looked quite like that. If it is John then that has to be one of the last shots of him and v81 before the refin. But now I realize you were looking for a pic of him with it from afterward, sorry. That I haven't seen. Still we'll keep poking around until something turns up

Not the same guitar.
Notice the bow tie bridge space to the pick up.
Plus, the guy has a short eyebrow...JL did not.

Sorry Kira, I simply cannot agree that the guy on the right is John Lennon.

That's OK, it's been a mystery to me since I saw it. I was just hoping to find out myself what the story was and if any light could be shed on the later photos of v81 by bringing it up. But you're probably right that it's a hoax.

Not a 'hoax,' just an eccentric collector who likes to pose with his guitars.

The guitar would have been refinished by 1980, anyway.
Back on topic, if anyone finds this said photo I'd love to see it.

On page 42 & 43 of Babiuk's book show a photo of how the guitar probably looked in 1980 and still probably looks now. Great story of how it was stripped back to natural and how the pickgard was changed to white.

The caption under the dual photo of JL and the eccentric collector with their 325s reads: "I funny picture with this model. The guitar that I have is a reissue model from 2002."dpowell wrote:Not a 'hoax,' just an eccentric collector who likes to pose with his guitars.

I found a photo of 1958 Capri 325 (V81) on this site as it looks today? This refin was started in 1972 I'm sure it was done before 1980. He played it on Double Fantasy.
