McCartney's new album

From his website: "In the studio, the recording of this album was also a new challenge for Paul who, for the first time ever, performed exclusively in the vocal booth without no instrument – no guitar, no bass, no piano - which led to a vocal performance like no other in his career."

It appears that he's not even playing bass on this album. The track that was released (My Valentine) has an upright bass.

It is a CD of old tunes from the 30s and 40s by other composers, except for two songs McCartney wrote in that style. So there probably won't be any electric bass.

It will be OK, I think. Still, so many people have already done this. In his own way, McCartney has been doing this since the Beatles were playing in Hamburg. There is a long list of McCartney songs and covers that are in this genre:

Excellent! Yeah, he already has been doing this for decades.

What strikes me is Macca had been, for the last three decades or so, trying to distance himself as a balladeer, reclaiming his rockin' Beatle and Wings past and such. So it is interesting that now he wants to put out this CD.

I wonder if he will do any shows to promote it?

I don't know "stride piano" but, based on what I have just read with a google search, Lady Madonna is not played in the stride style.

One site states, "left hand plays bass note or octave, followed by a chord."

Paul uses the "rolling" octave bass note pattern (low, high, low, high) that he used later in Hey Jude, but does not "jump" to play a chord with the left hand.

I have to hear more before I'll buy it. I'm not convinced I really NEED this. At this point I think I'd rather hear him sing JUNIOR'S FARM!
