Beatles, Melbourne 1964 live footage

Post by idealassets »

I came across this and watched the entire hour + 12 minute concert. The Beatles played most of their first album material, and start out on 2 Ric guitars at about 42:30 into the concert.

1. The first 3 bands sound in no way even comparable to the fine work of the Beatles. I especially notice John Lennon holding down the band with his guitar "chucking", putting a good timing on it all.

2. What models of Ric guitars are these? George has front binding on his.

3. I can't really detect a 12 string until the 3rd song "All My Lovin", Did George switch to a 12 string here?

4. What model of Gretsch guitar does George eventually switch to later on in the concert?

5. I like the early Beatles bowing to the audience after every song.

If this hasn't been posted before I hope you enjoy this:

Typical guitars from the '64 period. Rickenbacker 325 and 360/12 and Gretsch Country Gentleman.

Rickenbacker 325 and 360/12
John's 325 sounds about right, but George Harrison's guitar is double bound. John and George were presented with some top quality guitars for the models that they were given.

Watching those opening acts just reminds me how great and how far ahead of their time The Beatles were.

Yeah, love Lennon's driving rhythm guitar especially the 'shuffle' at 00:54:00 and 01:06:00. Thanks for posting!

I can't stand those YouTube video links, it's all a bunch of adverts one after the other. Whenever I see a YouTube link, I never click on it.

Thanks for the link to that seminal live footage. I wish I could answer some of your questions, but my browser keeps freezing up and I can't see the whole show. :(
