I'm a little confused. When you say "it's the same version," I take it you mean the same on both BBC packages?JakeK wrote:Live At The BBC, but it's the same version.
"Ticket to Ride" Tuning

Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
Yes. The song is the same take/version/variation on both packages as far as I know.
Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
Thanks, Jake. I just ordered myself a copy of "Live at the BBC." I'm hoping the pitch on "Ticket to Ride" will be in the viscinity of 435Hz. If not, it's no big deal. I've wanted to own that set for the longest time anyway.
Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
It's closer to 440
Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
I must be getting old. I just tune by ear for songs like that.
Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
That would be an easy solution if the song were recorded on a regular 6-string. But I tried tuning the low A on my 12-string to the CD and then couldn't get the rest of the strings to pitch. In the worst case scenario I'll learn the song without the CD. It's one of my absolute favorites.bobb wrote:I must be getting old. I just tune by ear for songs like that.

While you wait for your CD, Robert, here's the BBC version of "Ticket"

Thanks so much, Jake, for all of your advice, and for the link.
Re: "Ticket to Ride" Tuning
Jake,
Just opened up my tab transcription of the album "Help!" and played along with the BBC version of "Ticket to Ride." The pitch was so close to standard tuning that I was able to follow it with absolutely no problem. It's an easy song to learn, and it sounds just right with my C63. It's almost like the C63 was designed to play that song!
Thanks for all of your suggestions. We're lucky to have you on the RRF: You may be our most knowledgeable Beatles expert.

WOW, Why so TECH-NO Guys? I go back to thev days of "Needle-Lifting", and never had a problem just using my ear to tune to the "record", (them thick Vinyl thingys, Ha!) Our best Tech-no was having "machinen" that had 78, 45, 33 1/3, and 16 RPM'S. Each one lowering the speed, as well as the pitch, (unfortunately), one octave lower. If you could tolerate the "GROWL", you could pick out the slides and/or bends, hammer-ons, pick-offs, etc. rather well. But then that was "Yesterday", (or YesterYear). Gopherit! Gb

There is also this if you have Windows 7....there is a way to speed up or slow down the speed of the playback.
Hey, its free so what the heck?

Um, are we all forgetting that it isn't the guitar, but that it is the entire tape that was speeded up slightly by the oscillator connected to the tape drive capstan so that on standard replay it sounded slightly slower? Go listen to a live version, or better yet watch one on YouTube. I think you will find that they are playing it in standard tuning, or at least relative tuning so "A" is approximately "A-440" wherever they are. (And that the capstan was slowed down for the lyrics on "...64" so they sound a little creaky when replayed at standard speed.)
