I missed "What is Life" and "This Song" at the Concert for George. I became a big fan of "Beware of Darkness" from Eric Clapton's version. It may have been my favorite "cover" of the concert.Folkie wrote:I didn't come up with anything when I searched the RRF for this topic, but I'm certain it's been addressed many times before.
My two favorite George Harrison songs ("If I Needed Someone" and "I Want to Tell You") are right here in the Concert for George:

(Unfortunately the third song is one of Harrison's least inspired: "Old Brown Shoe.")
I'm hoping others will chime in and list their favorites. Harrison was my favorite Beatle.

It's got to be "something" for me. Sublime song, and a great baseline from McCartney too.

The best with Beatles:
While my guitar gently weeps
Taxman
Here comes the sun
Solo:
Beautiful Girl
Isn't it a pity
Somewhere to go
Someplace Else
Beware of Darkness
While my guitar gently weeps
Taxman
Here comes the sun
Solo:
Beautiful Girl
Isn't it a pity
Somewhere to go
Someplace Else
Beware of Darkness

For those who haven't heard "Far East Man", written by George and Ronnie Wood, there are two versions. One was done with Woody on lead vocals, George on slide guitar and harmony vocals (heard clearly throughout the song), Keith Richards on bass and Ian McLagen on piano (for Woody's album I've Got My Own Album To Do. The second was on George's Dark Horse album, featuring George playing all guitars, Billy Preston on keyboards, Tom Scott on horns, with Woody, Mac and Keef not present on the track, and George on lead vocals.
Which do you like better?
Woody's:
Or George's:
It's a truly '70s song any way you look, and it's one of my favorite Ronnie Wood songs and George's best vocal on Dark Horse

Favorite George Harrison Songs
That's not saying much, because that year (was it '74 or so?) between his studio sessions and going on tour to promote the Dark Horse album (also the name of his post-Apple record label) George's vocals were totally burned out and he really was in no shape to sing, event after event. The Bootleggers would release bootleg concert albums entitled "Dark Hoarse" . Unfortunately his vocals were showing the hoarseness on the Dark Horse album too....but in spite of this situation, several tunes from DH got airplay and there is some nice guitar work. I attended the George Harrison Dark Hoarse concert that year and although we all loved George (and he got kudos for persevering and not cancelling the tour), his hoarse singing was a huge disappointment and the reviewers and music industry pundits were not too kind, if I recall.JakeK wrote: and George's best vocal on Dark Horse
The Ron Wood first solo album you mention is a real gem in the rough !!
I like both GH and Wood's versions of Far East Man.

Re: Favorite George Harrison Songs
There are so many favorites of mine already listed here but I don't think anyone has mentioned "Marwa Blues" from Brainwashed. What a beautiful song! I don't know how much was finished before his death and how much was his son's efforts but I do not care...Dhani is cut from the same cloth and clearly knew what pop wanted on these tracks.
It has gorgeous slide work and has many of those trade-marked Beatles/Harrison elements. One of the many things I like about it is that if it was on an early solo album or a middle solo album it would fit right in.

Heading For The Light could have fit as part of Revolver.
Cheer Down is another great one.

Which is better, the sitar-playing on "Love You Too," or that on "Within You Without You"? Opinions, anyone?
