George Harrison SG

Post by Medicus1963 »

Hi all,
I have a question about the SG George uses from 1966 until 1968: Is it quite similar to this one ?

http://www.thomann.de/de/gibson_sg_original_hc.htm

It seems pretty close, isn`t it ?

Thanks

peter

Shame that they put Nashville bridges on these.

I seem to remember reading that he gave it to Pete Ham of Badfinger. If so, no telling where it is now.

I think Petes wife sold it after his death for Peanuts !
There is somewhere a very proud owner of a superb instrument with a famous pre-owner !

Doesn't Jim Irsay own it?

That's look to be correct. I did a search and if confirmed the Irsay ownership.

Yes, the SG George played in the Paperback Writer video is owned by sports impresario Irsay (along with a couple of other Beatle guitars).

I thought it was Pete Ham's brother who sold it from the estate ... but, who knows the exact story of which Ham family member sold it. Irsay acquired it from a Christies auction

I bought one of those SG Originals because I loved the look of the Harrison/Ham guitar. To make it totally playable I put a bone nut & Tone Pros roller bridge on it. IMO its the best SG Gibson has made in years.
