I know, no Ricks here, although Cheap Trick has various associations with Rickenbacker; amps, guitars. But I didn't know that they had hoped to have John Lennon act as their producer. Here's a post-lawsuit interview with Bun E. Carlos:

Lennon's Rock and Roll album doesn't always get the respect it deserves, so it was nice to see that these guys dug the sound. Now I hear it all over Cheap Trick's music.

As a young boy, I always wondered why I liked the Beatles best. Yes, I enjoyed other groups, but the Beatles struck a chord, so to speak. Yes, I listened to everything: church music, classical, broadway, country, and of course rock & pop, including mom's singles she had as a teenager (hold that thought), but the Beatles were it.

And then, John Lennon's Rock and Roll album came out in 1975, when I was 13. Of course I immediately purchased it with allowance money. Then I got it home with great anticipation. When I read the song list, at least half of the original 45 r.p.m. records of the songs he covered were in Mom's singles record rack!!!

So I come by being a Beatles fan and aficionado honestly.

I had similar situation in that reading about the Beatles led me to Elvis and Ray Charles; then to R&B and Jazz.

CT’s famous reading of Ain’t That A Shame is a cover of the Rock-N-Roll version, with a straight four feel instead of a triplet feel, right down to the solo breaks at the end.

Seeing that vid and reading that interview really opened my ears to that. I'm a big fan of their first three studio albums. Especially In Color and in B&W. For me, CT was almost but not quite a local band, them being from Rockford, Illinois. Anyway, I always loved Rock and Roll, that and Walls and Bridges.
