does anyone know if McGuinn plans on re-releasing Byrdmaniax without the overdubs? The 1999 bonus tracks included a bare version of "pale blue", so the master tapes must be somewhere.

Sony owns Byrdmaniax, not Roger McGuinn. I have no insider knowledge, but my guess would be that there aren't any plans to re-release that CD.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on the Yahoo Byrdmaniax list about this topic. And the consensus is basically yours, Steve.
