Byrds fingerpicking viedo

Post by bowser2533 »

I posted on YouTube 2 Byrds videos I made. The one is how to finger pick and flat pick the intro for Chimes of Freedom and the 2nd one is how to finger pick the Intro and the solo for Turn Turn Turn. I went into some detail on both. I made them with my phone. I tried to post em on the forum here but was unable. If you want to check em out and let me know what you think go to YouTube type in Chimes of Freedom/intro The 2nd one is Byrds turn turn turn/lesson. They are both by Gary Jacob. Let me know what you think. Gary

I'm loving these. This is one of the main reasons the Byrds' sound was so distinctive... the McGuinn fingerpicked leads and outs. No other group had that unique twist then and even now. Wish I wasn't such a mucical klutz and could do a few of them. Great instructional stuff. :D :D

I found these very enlightening, particularly the sections on "Chimes of Freedom" and the solo to "She Don't Care About Time." This sort of picks up where Roger's DVD left off. Thanks, Gary!

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback on the videos I posted. I have been playing McGuinns Rick parts for awhile, and I love doing these videos. He is the BIG reason why we all own these Rickenbacker 12 stringers, at least for me. Just trying to keep his style alive. Also if anyone has a tune they would like to learn, post the request, and I will try my best to get it up on the forum. Again Thank You. Gary

I'll take you up on that offer, Gary! :D I've always had trouble with the banjo rolls on "If You're Gone," from Turn!Turn!Turn!. Part of this has to do with Roger's 12-string being multi-tracked, and another part has to do with the fact that his fingerpicking patterns are complex and come by very quickly. I know this is an obscure song in the Byrds catalog, but I think it's worthy of an online lesson.

Thanks,

Robert

Bells of Rhymey (sp??) , the break in that song, I'd like to watch you play.

Also, was there any finger picking style in Feel A Whole Lot Better's lead break?

Best,

Manta
