Book: Fuzz, Acid & Flowers Revisited

Post by drumbob »

I broke down and bought the book Fuzz Acid & Flowers Revisited by Vernon Joynson. I got a better price by buying it from a bookseller in England-$54 shipped. At 1422 pages, it's an exhaustive reference book on American garage, psych and hippie bands from 63-75. I can open it anywhere and just start reading. Fascinating stuff. I thought I was knowledgeable on 60's garage, but Joynson is the man. There are some glaring omissions though; The Dutch Masters were left out, as well as the Clifton, NJ band, The Vacant Lot, that had a one single out on a major label circa '66. The Thorns from Bergen County, NJ were also omitted. The book is the last word on the subject though, and is highly recommended to anyone surfing this section of the forum.

And on a personal note, my high school garage band, Saturday's Garbage, is included. Our full story is in there. Very flattering. We got a half page.

Actually, I found out we were included accidentally. I went over to NYC to see The Left Banke recently and was chatting with another guy at the show, I mentioned I was in a 60s garage band and we had a 45 acetate. He asked me the name of the band, I told him, and he said, "You guys are in this book, Fuzz Acid & Flowers. You got a whole big write-up." I immediately went home and bought the book.
