Look What Followed Me Home!

Post by jimk »

My new Gretsch 5120, last Monday. Now I have everything essential for studio recordings. Except the drummer still sucks.

That's cool, Jim. Are you going to do the upgrades on it?

Yeah Kira, I think so. One of the first things I'd like to replace is one of the strap buttons. I don't really like unscrewing the top one every time I put the guitar away. The second thing I've thought of is maybe replace the tuning keys. I'm not absolutely sold on Sperzel locking tuners, however. But I could be persuaded. Pinning the bridge in place is an option I might consider. OTH, I have so many instruments with floating bridges that it doesn't bother me to have a guitar with one. These will have to wait, however. The Guitar Slush Fund has all been spent. 8)

I sure do love the sound, though. Man, everything from jazzy/swingy blues, to Chet style sounds, and with the flick of the pickup selector switch, instant rockabilly.

Yeah, right here. It's a tune called "Home, Sweet Home" done in Chet Atkins' style. Excuse the fluffed notes and the missed opportunities. This was not a carefully rehearsed recording, more of a last-minute idea.

Recording data:
Guitar: Gretsch G5120 stock
Amp: MusicMan 110 RD-Fifty
Settings: Treble, 5; Bass, 5; Reverb, 6
Stomp Box: MXR Carbon Copy delay pedal
Mic: Shure SM-57, recorded on TASCAM DP-02 digital portastudio, Room reverb setting on 1.4 sec. delay

Thanks, CJ. I forgot to mention that the pickup selector switch was in the middle position.
