Recently I was contacted via my 325 Connection Website by the owner of a very interesting vintage Ric 315.
2V285 apparently spent much of it's life as Rickenbacker's promotional sample of the 310 - 325 Series. This same guitar was used from the late 50's and into the 60's for promotional photographs in a variety of guises. The owner (who is the first official owner too) relates how it has a variety of screw-holes from the assorted Control plates, Truss rod Covers, Middle pickup, Tail Pieces, Tuners, etc that have adorned it thru the years. Word is that this guitar is none other than the one in the hands of the Lovely Kim sister on page 93 of Smith's Ric Book. More details and a current Picture can be found in the '59-'63 section of my website http://www.geocities.com/vintage325/325_2.html
Another thing I might add is that this Ric has an early form of Fireglo finish.....not the same as 60's Fireglo.
I also suspect that the promotional photo on page 92 of Smith's book might be this same guitar in a late 60's incarnation. Check the hex tuner ferrules.....
A very interesting vintage 315 appears

Thanks guys. It's amazing the way things can turn up so many years later and fit into place. Sort of like Bilbo unexpectedly finding the ring one could say.....
I'm working on a page featuring more pics of 2V285. The beginings of it can be found here :

Glen: This gets more interesting with each post. I love the fireglo Rickenbackers on the car finished in desert gold.
