Favorite strings on your 320/325
I just completed a nice trade for a 320. (The other guy is the thrilled new owner of a vintage SG.) I don't know why this is, but it just feels much more "right" in my hands that did the 325C64 that I briefly owned. Anyway, to the point of my post:
It could stand some new strings. Currently has heavy-ish round wound strings with a wound G string. I think it needs the heavier strings. I definitely want the vintage-y sound so am thinking flats. What have you guys tried that you like? I of course expect to hear response with both Pyramid and T-I. Which ones? Others?
Then the next question will be whether it is worth it to put toasters on it considering that for the cost of three toasters and what I could get for the 320, I am getting close to the cost of one of the reissues. We can save that question for later. Or not.

Should have posted this in the 325 section. Can we move it?
Re: Favorite strings on your 320/325
Wherever it winds up, there's lots of good choices on strings. My favorite is Thomastik-Infeld Jazz/Swing Flat 12s. I have them on my c58s, c64 and 1996.
Lots of guys like Pyramid flat 13s, but they felt too heavy too me. Even if I went with 13s, I'd probably give the T-Is a try over Pyramid.
Congrats on your trade/new guitar!!

I cannot recommend the SIT 12 gauge flatwound set enough for the short-scale Rics.

I don´t like flatwound strings, so I am using the original Rickenbacker strings (012-056) and I like them very much.

I'd not heard of these before KH. Can you compare them to T-Is?kennyhowes wrote:I cannot recommend the SIT 12 gauge flatwound set enough for the short-scale Rics.

Different than TI strings (which I use on my 12 string and am eager to try on a six)...Just enough dullness to sound and feel old-school, but with enough springiness to not be taxing on the fingertips.wj350 wrote:I'd not heard of these before KH. I do have a set on my '67 330 too (the same 12 gauge set), which are stiffer on a regular-scale neck but have the perfect amount of funk to make the scene. How's that for clashing slang?
Seriously, they're cool, I like them.

I might have to give 'em a try--thanks!~

I also use the D'Addario Chromes, but a 12 gauge set.
Re: Favorite strings on your 320/325
12 guage sets of D'Addario Chromes on both my 325v63 and 325/12v63. They sound a little dull when acoustically, but when plugged in, they really sound the part.
Re: Favorite strings on your 320/325
i'm in the Pyramid flat 13s category for my 325v63, heavier yes, but i find they just ring better than others...wj350 wrote:Wherever it winds up, there's lots of good choices on strings. My favorite is Thomastik-Infeld Jazz/Swing Flat 12s. I have them on my c58s, c64 and 1996.

Re: Favorite strings on your 320/325
I really like the TI flats as already mentioned and prefer 12's. I have them on my 325C64. They are less expensive than Pyramids and also, according to Mr. Hall are the closest strings readily available that resemble the flats they used to use in the 60's. I find the tone to be balanced and in fact prefer them to Pyramids.
