Funtime was an Iggy & Bowie tune, not a Stooges song.

Whew, for a minute there I thought he meant "Funhouse", and I can't imagine Michael Stipe doing that song any justice IMHO. I will say the Red Hot Chili Peppers did a good version of "Search and Destroy", as well as Greg on a recent thread.

Metallica did a cover of the Anti Nowhere Leagues "So What", but not nearly as well IMHO.

Guns and Roses did some pretty awful punk covers on their "Spaghetti Incident" album. Iggys "Raw Power", The Damneds "New Rose", and Fear "I don't care about you" amongst other bad versions of punk songs was really quite laughable, they should have put out a cover album of Rock/Metal songs instead of this IMHO.

Not sure if the Presidents could be referred to as a "punk band", but the "cover" is kind of funny.

How about Chili Peppers doing Waiting Room by Fugazi?

Or how about some random guys doing a bluegrass-y version of it?

How about Beastie Boys doing Screaming at the Wall by Minor Threat.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/S0NJD7TsfII&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/S0NJD7TsfII&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/youtube]

And here is Sublime doing "Minor Threat" by Minor Threat on WBCN radio interview. Song doesn't start until about 4:00 in.

The Beastie Boys were originally a punk band, than switched to rap and made millions. I saw them on Saturday night live in the 90s, and they played instruments, and did a punk song.
