Greg, I'd think the bobbin would melt also - use a very fine point and melt a small channel next to the wire. I'd sure try that. I would think it would be very hard to control the dremel, easy for it to get away from you.

John, the bobbin appears to be nylon....it certainly doesn't melt with the sodlering iron. I have the same concerns as you about using a dremel. I'm going to talk to a local luthier friend about a couple ideas and see what he thinks. He's got a lot of experience with repairing oddball pickups. My other pickup friend, Dave Stephens from Stephens Design pickups didn't want to mess with it, but then he's not fond of RICs too.
