Lap steel cases?

Post by kennyhowes »

Hey all - who's got a line on cases, new or old, for Ric-shaped lap steels? My NS is bumping around in a tolex-covered gun case.

Cool, so the shotgun case seems to be the accepted quick and cheap substitute!

And you can carry your shotgun in it, too. BSF, I haven't tried the shotgun case thing yet, but it looks like it could be a great solution. What I have done at least once, since lap steels are so small, is to buy a used hard shell guitar case, remove the bracing and yoke and line it with some foam that can be cut to the exact shape of the lap steel.

I'll try to post some photos soon.

I bought a Gold Tone lap steel case from Elderly last year. It fits almost perfect.

I have a J-6 I called and emailed G&G cases the only way they could make a case like the old Rick case.
They would have written consent from Rickenbacker Int. and would be $300. to $400. bucks
So i bought a SKB MIDI small keyboard case it's a work in progress but it will fit
Being thats where you work you should have no problem My contact at G&G was (Gus )

Good Luck

This may not help, but when I had my Model 100 that did not come with a case, I MacGyvered one out of another instrument case.

I don't remember what that case was for, maybe a viola. I looked for one that had suitable inside dimensions and that could be modified without too much difficulty, and that one fit the bill (plus, IIRC, I bought it when it was on sale at a local music store). I had to cut a piece out of the center so tha guiar would lie flat, but it wasn't too bad of a mod.
