Any interest in a Chicago - Milwaukee area confluence?

Post by kenf »

I'm not finding any recent threads, so - anybody interested in doing a confluence or minicon?

I'd be happy to get the ball rolling...

Sure, I'd be interested, but I think the Chicago guys need to chime in here. Seems Ted has submerged, and doing a confluence in Chicagoland without him would be folly.

I pretty much single-handedly arranged a Milwaukee confluence three years ago, and it was a great time, but lightly attended. The two major collectors, Ted Staberow and Jeff Thomas, brought their huge fleets of Rick basses on Saturday. I think we had maybe 50 instruments and maybe a dozen attendees. The reality is that to book a conference room at a hotel costs money, but some of that could be mitigated by overnight room bookings. In the Milwaukee case, I don't think anyone but my wife and I overnighted.

Another thought is to possibly find a suitable space through one's local community center, church, school, or bank.

I'm certainly willing to ringlead if no one else wants to do it. I'm in Aurora, which would be a bit of a haul for the WI crowd. What about someplace between MKE and ORD - say Gurnee?

Gurnee? I suppose that'll do!

Maybe some St. Louis or Central Illinois folks would come as well. I keep trying to make one of these regional gatherings -- one of these days my back issues may actually let me travel. I certainly would be interested. I'd prefer Aurora over Gurnee, but obviously go with whatever works for the majority.

Aurora/Naperville would be a heck of a lot easier for me to organize...

I'm in.
I talked to Ted about this about a month ago but I don't think either one of us had the time nor inclination to get the ball rolling. I'm sure he'd attend though.

OK, let's survey those that have replied so far:

* Would you be more likely to attend a confluence held someplace between Chicago and Milwaukee (like Gurnee) or in Aurora, 40 miles SW of Chicago on I-88?

* Would either location make it less likely for you to attend?

As I mentioned, Aurora/Naperville would be much easier for me to plan...

Any location would be OK with me. Timing would be the only thing that could intervene.

+1 - closer to Chicago would be better for us east and south though. Hey, same weekend as the SoCal one then we could Skype and have one BIG confluence!

Gurnee or Aurora would be equally (in)convenient for me.

I'm in the middle so either location is good for me.
