Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols

Post by iamthebassman »

My son Keith and I got to meet Steve Jones Saturday. I told him about when, in 1978, my best friend and I started a band after buying "Never Mind...". I'm sure he's heard it all before but he seemed really interested about my old South Texas Punk band. Nice guy.

Keith had only learned how to do high-five about a week earlier but when Steve said "Give me a high-five", he did it perfectly. (proud dad!)

Oh how cool for you, Ronn!

I predict Keith will be starting a Pistols' tribute band in about 15 years

Very cool, Ron! I miss Steve's "Jonesy's Jukebox", on the now defunct Indie 103.1 FM. Cool Ducati jersey on Mr. Jones!

Yep, if I remember correctly, 103.1FM went Spanish.

Yes, absolutely. The Pistols were a huge part of my life when I was just learning to play and starting my first band in the late 70s. Thru being in the Eggmen I've met tons of famous musicians/celebs/athletes/etc. and I never get too worked up about it, but meeting Steve was different, he and his band affected my life.

Yep, it's "El Gato" now. pleaded with the station once while on the phone with a big cheese at the station to never sell out to one of those "Mexican Polka Music" stations, as had been the fate of a number of alternative stations that tried to challenge KROQ throughout the 90s. I was assured that this would never happened, but oh well, things change. Never say never, I suppose. I hope Mr. Jones is on the air again sometime soon. He had a great show! In any case, great pic! :D

I gotta weight in on this.

Due to my work, my 4-year-old son has had the chance to meet a number of pro athletes, and stuff like that, but nothing as cool as high fiving Steve Jones.

Very nice.

And people in high school never understood how one could love The Beatles and The Sex Pistols all at the same time.

I love the Beatles, probably the most satisfying band of all time for me. I also love the Sex Pistols. I also love listening to Beethoven and I like The Beastie Boys too from time to time. Right now in my car's cdplayer I have some Elton John, Dresdon Dolls, Gogol Bordello, Rufus Wainwright and Diana Krall. Go figure.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

That's bosstastic! Always nice when a celeb turns out to be a nice guy or gal. I'm a big Pistols fan, and for better or worse not only did Jonesy influence my guitar style, but there's a lot of ol' J. Rotten in my vocals too.

And li'l Keith is going to cherish that photo some day!
