Last new track for now.... SHIPS!

Post by fireglo67 »

"SHIPS"
This track was the second one that was written and recorded purely for submission for the RRF3 CD. The other being "THE VANE".

I just wanted a simple song with lots of 12 string jangle, and this is what came out the other end.
I wrote this on a Friday Afternoon, recorded all the parts on the Saturday morning and it was mixed and finished by the Saturday night.
Just bass, drums, vocals, backing vocals, my 360/12 Jetglo and a Janglebox.

Because it was done so quickly, listening back I think, "Oh, I should have done this or that". But I also think the rawness adds a certain charm too.
It's the 3rd track down on the player. (SHIPS)
All thoughts, comments and criticisms welcome.

Cheers.

Rob.

Really nice, Rob!

You've added a lot to the recording by spending time on the drums and the harmonies (the things that always suffer when I want to record something quick) so hats off to you there. And that was a rush job?
Great tune and the 12-string sound is captured very, very well. You got very close to the sound on Primal Scream's "Sonic Flower Groove" which is a great reference for Rick 12-string sounds in my book.

Thanks guys.

I absolutely love Teenage Fanclub and have been playing the Grand Prix album a lot lately. :)

I haven't listened to 'Sonic Flower Groove' for years. I must dig it out and give it a spin. I remember it being a pretty good album, I wonder if it's aged well though.

Thanks for listening! :D

Thanks for that. I particularly appreciate the comment about the vocals as I've never been happy/comfortable with my voice.

Cheers! :)

Nice work once again Mr. Bob, great picking and timing, not to mention the sound. It may have been my computer speakers but the vocal lead seemed very loud in the mix. Then again, who can count on computer speakers? Good stuff...

Thanks Joe.

Yes, the vocals are louder in this mix, and you're right that they're probably a bit too loud.
Glad you enjoyed the track though.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

Cheers.

I'm aware of XTC, but I have to admit to not owning a single record or CD by them. So I can really take or leave their music.
I was always put off by Andy Partridge constantly slating Paul Weller in the music press.
I was very much in the 'Weller is god' camp. :D
