Safari works OK on our Apple platforms, but it just doesn't cut it on Linux...

That happens to me too, especially when I click a link then hit the back button. My computer has been acting up eversince an electric storm where I didn't turn it off in time.

Seems unlikely an electric storm caused any harm to your computer - I never turn my computers or notebooks off. Only a direct hit on the powerline will cause damage. I use IE8 with DSL and never had an issue here on the RRF.
