Probably 1976, as he went into seclusion. Also George's life was a mess: having personal marriage problems; was over-the-top in proselytizing his religious beliefs; lost his voice on the disastrous Dark Horse tour and having numerous affairs. I think Lennon had it right: he was "lost".
