I doubt it will be worth anything in the long run... but for a short time it might be a good investment!

Thomas, a lot of people, including me use facebook to stay in touch with friends who live too far away to go visit easily. Facebook serves a purpose in that way, and I would not like to see it go away, as I'd have to go back to email contact which just isn't the same as Facebook! What did Facebook do that you hate it? Must've been quite bad, as hate's quite an extreme emotion!

I can remember when "Netscape" was the big thing and was going to be worth squillions, then there was "Yahoo"....
In the IT world, a new product with relatively negligible startup costs can destroy your business model overnight, so huge valuations for Facebook may be a little overdone. That said, you can't argue about it's market presence right now.
