SoCalCon - Pictures, Comments, & Clips

Post by beatbyrd »

Might as well start a new thread for this. First, let me thank the organizers of this event. The venue was very roomy (but HOT) and there didn't seem to be any issue with places to park. The club had a good sized stage and a decent sound system. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces, as well as a whole bunch of (to me at least) new ones.

I was especially impressed with a couple of ladies (a singer and a drummer) who graced the stage with their talent. I'm sure there will be pictures posted of each of them.

I had to leave early, but it at least gives me a chance to post some of the first pics. I only took pictures of one lineup. Thanks to Joey, Diane, and all of the others who worked to make this happen.

Tom, thanks for posting the pictures. It was great to see so many Forum members we haven't seen in a while and a warm welcome to the several new Ric Jam participants and singers ! And it was great that so many folks stopped by from Rickenbacker Company --- thanks for everyone at RIC for supporting the event !

I would like to thank Joey and Diane for all their efforts to make this happen -- especially finding the Malone's venue on short-notice, when we over-crowded ourselves out of the first location ! ! :) And big thanks to Paulie for his excellent efforts in Jam-Meistering today and getting so many jammers participating. And to everyone who brought amps, drums, keyboards and, of course, sharing all their cool Rickenbackers.

And special thanks to the five or six drummers who sat-in today and did an excellant job. There was an especially cool drumming performance on The Ramones "I Want to be Sedated" by Cinda Lee !! 8) :)

Thanks to Rich for the cat-herding!
I can't thank Tim enough for bringing the drum kit!
Thanks to everyone who came. Everyone did their part to make this a great and fun event.
Special thanks to John, Cindalee, Ben and Richard from RIC for coming and supporting us!
I'll be resizing pics today, but also have a gig this afternoon, so I'll probably post pics tomorrow.

For next time, I know how to play all of Blondie's "One Way or Another," including the solo....
I can't believe I've never played that song before, as much as I like it. .. probably because I haven't been in bands with female lead vocalists...
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."

Next time, even I'll play rhythm guitar if someone else grabs the bass spot! I hope Vicky sings more songs next time!
For not knowing how to play the song before performing it, I think you gave it a great effort, Paulie! I think Vicky was a little nervous at her very first performance ever at one of our jams.

I'll second what Scott and Rich said...

After listening and learning the solo, it is almost laughably simple/easy to play, but a lot of great, hooky riffs are!

Hi Jason, I had to leave at around 4. I asked someone about you earlier and was told that you MIGHT get there, but the 'when' was uncertain. I was looking forward to meeting you. What time did you finally arrive?

Can you make it to the October one? Does $$$ grow on trees?

Do they grow in the wild or are the cultivated, only?

I would be very interested in seeing those, Joey.

Wish I could've been there, it looks and sounds like you guys had a great time! Looking forward to seeing more pictures.
