RE-C58 one off! Help!
Hello a few days back I posted for the first time regarding my newly acquired 325C58 and have not been able to post up pics (I have been out of town). Anyway this is my first 325 and I love it but I understand I came across a unique one. Here are some of the things I found to be different: Regular jackplate (instead of the Elongated C58), Trapeze bridge, Bridge cover, Lacquered neck, and Montezuma Brown Finish. No extra holes anywhere, no mods, it appears to have been built this way. It is in fact a C58 the body measure 2 inches in depth. I cannot find a serial number on it, I was told to look inside the under the pickguard for any special markings but I found nothing, the only special marking i found was at the 12th fret facing me, it has a red mark at the end of the fret. Anyway If I could get some info on my new guitar I would really I appreciate it I love this thing it has been my dream guitar and I just cant seem to put it down now that I finally own one. Here are a few pics (not the greatest I took them with my smart phone)

That is indeed an odd duck. A c58 would have an elongated jackplate. That pickguard appears to be from a v59 (note odd control spacing). Finish just looks off to me, though it could be the photo quality/lighting.
Re: RE-C58 one off! Help!
Yes indeed it is, the guy I got it from told me it belonged to some celeb, he got it at an estate sale practically in mint condition. He said he believes its an 04' model but that's as much info as he had on the guitar, I compared it to his other C58 and everything looked the same except for those little differences, he said it must have been a custom factory build. I'm hoping to get some answers here. Sorry for the pics i know they don't do the finish justice the lighting makes everything look weird.

Interesting. A puzzle for sure.
The fact there are no markings inside the control cavity and no serial number on the jack plate makes me question if this is a genuine Rickenbacker. Also, the bridge looks more like an Allparts bridge than a genuine RIC item to me. Most of the other parts look legit to me.
Do the tuners look like this and say RIC-TITE on the back?

Also being discussed here: viewtopic.php?p=774338#p774338
The 325C58 models I have seen did not have a bridge covers and there were no holes to mount a bridge cover.
Does yours have brass rollers in the bridge saddles?

It has saddles, no rollers. I thought maybe it was a v59 considering some of the specs but the body depth measures 2 inches. I'm really confused now to say the least

Unfortunately the jackplate is not exactly what is normally used by RIC as the "usual" single jack plate, too.
The grain of the fretboard is something to have a closer look at - and the way the cavity is painted, too.
The spacing of the pickup selector is strange as well.
All this can be o.k. - it is usual at RIC that sometimes things are happening that usually do not happen.
What is under the truss rod cover, one or two rods? Can You please make a picture of that?
And: what is written on the pots?

I will look under the truss rod cover today once I get home and post up pics, I will also take a closer picture of the fret board and the pots, I hope to find good news

Looks like too many erroneous features to be real IMHO

The C58's only have one rod, I beleive.Hotzenplotz wrote:Unfortunately the jackplate is not exactly what is normally used by RIC as the "usual" single jack plate, too.

The headstock's shape looks a little off too, it flares out on the top bass side too much..

The cut out in the wood almost seems too drastic.Hotzenplotz wrote:Yep!dpowell wrote:Ramp is all wrong.
Sorry man, I hope you didn't pay too much for it. There is still a chance that it is a prototype that was never meant to leave the factory so, they didn't give it a serial number, and mayne they were just testing different shapes and finishes on that model.
Don't lose hope!
