Cut my hair
Cut my hair
A little over three years ago I decided to grow my hair out and donate it to a worthy cause. The charity I chose was Wigs 4 Kids. This is fairly close to me in Saint Clair Shores Michigan. I liked the idea of doing something for a local charity. So over the last three years I was able to grow my hair to a 12" length. They required a minimum of 10" so a couple of months ago I had the person who normally cut my hair (for the last 30 years) cut it. She made numerous small pony tails all over my head so I had enough to donate and enough not to be bald myself. She had cut hair for donations before and knew just what to do.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I started this. I have had long hair before but not like this. It was a real chore to take care of especially when it wasn't long enough to keep in a pony tail. I somehow managed and learned some techniques.
Maggie Varney, Founder & CEO of Wigs 4 Kids sent me a nice thank you via email and US mail. I had sent in a CD of before, during, and after pictures along with my hair and a note. Maggie told me that she would use the pics to encourage other men to grow their hair for this good cause. You can find my pics a short way down the page of their blog.

What a great thing to do!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Cut my hair
Good man! I'd do something similar, except I don't think those kids would be very happy with gray hair.

A wonderful contribution Ken. Very cool.

Re: Cut my hair
Quite the opposite. They don't want colored (dyed) hair. They can make grey any color they want. Although maybe not so apparent in my pics but there is plenty of grey to go along with the dark hair. Salt and pepper is the way most describe it.teb wrote:Good man! I'd do something similar, except I don't think those kids would be very happy with gray hair.

Very commendable, Ken.
I also really liked the ending of her entry on you; "being a cancer survivor himself."
