rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
hi to everyone!
i'm pretty new to this site. I'm a bass player but i like to play guiar too... have some fender, gibson and hofner but i don't have (yet) a rickenbacker, even if "my" first bass.. was a '74 4001 that my dad's friend let me play for a wile... (how lucky uh?)
i'm here because i saw for sale a '76 480...
nice conditions, walnut finish and black pickguard and trussrod cover.
price is fixed at 1400$ so i was almost ready to pull the trigger..
what you think?
thanks!
have a nice day

Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
That's a great price if it's playable and everything works. The walnut finish is uncommon for this guitar (it was a custom color) and that combined with the black plastic makes it a rare combination for this particular model.
Check eBay prices on these. They are getting expensive.

Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
This one has been for sale locally for a few months now with no takers.
http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell ... Z441870376
I bought my BG one for $700 less...
Saw this one on Ebay last night for what I think is a crazy price!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1974-Vinta ... 2c6b1c4051
As long as it plays OK I would say anything under $1500 is a bargain.

Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
Brian the price is right. How do you feel about a very flat fretboard? I would try it first.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I just bought a 1981 BG 480 last month, so I am not in the market for another one just yet...admin wrote:Brian the price is right. How do you feel about a very flat fretboard? I would try it first.

I'd say it's a fair price, but I agree that you should check it out, play it first and make sure you like it first before you buy it.
But frankly, I don't think I've ever seen a 480 I didn't like.

Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).

I missed this one on kiiji today for $350.

Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
Snapped off horn, i'd walk on by even if it was 50$.
Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
The TRC alone would be worth at least $50, no?

Then you would be very DUMB.
Parts alone this guitar was worth $500
TRC - 130
R Tail - $160
Two 70s High Gains at least 80 bucks each
Bridge - $50
Jackplate $80
I could have a whole new neck made and refinished to match for much less then the next cheapest 480 for sale locally.

Re: rickenbacker 480, pull the trigger?
Agreed. In fact, I'd question that a good luthier or woodworker couldn't make and attach a new horn and then touch up or re-fin the neck, especially being Jetglo. And if she still plays well, who cares. I'd rather it sound good than look pretty! If I would have known about it I would have jumped on it. $350 leaves plenty of room to fix it up.Ontario_RIC_fan wrote:Grey wrote:Snapped off horn, i'd walk on by even if it was 50$.
