New Vid - McCartney Rick Sighting

Post by bottom4 »

Check out as he's walking through the studio at around 1.49 in...

So here's the answer, he still used the Rick!

cheers

Yes! Also, his guitar tech has confirmed to me 4 years ago that he occasionally uses the old Ric in the studio. Great to see her on the stand ready to play!

I think the answer is that he still has the Rick sitting in a rack in his studio.

.
I reckon it's a real shame that he sanded the Sgt. Pepper era psychedelic paint job off it!

That was a classic look.

To me it's a shame that he ruined the beautiful original Fireglo finish.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

I think he sanded it off because it was flaking off.

He needs to get Paul W to repaint it!

I think it is encouraging that it is at least on a stand and ready to go. I'd imagined it sitting in a case somewhere.

I wonder if it's just dirty and maybe stinks a little, which is why he doesn't play it. There was that article by the Rickenbacker guy who worked on it in mid 70's, who said all the finish had been sanded off. That would have let in a lot of sweat, smoke and stink from at least several world tours.

I don't think Paul has sweat over that bass in many, many years.

From the photographic evidence, I'd imagine it's possible that his bare wood Rickenbacker got pretty sweat-logged after the '72 and '75-'76 tours, not to mention recording on a boat with it in '77. I wonder if it's coincidence that he adopted the Yahama shortly thereafter...

The Yamaha was another freebie. Several top bass players at this time were given the BB120 that he used to see if they liked all the qualities it had and of course to attract fans that would like to purchase a BB bass. I remeber that when they became available to the public, I ordered one from Manny's in NYC and there was a 6 month wait because they were still being produced and not ready to be sold. i also remember that when it came I loved it. The strings that came with it were the best i ever used and I've tried them all. They were Yamaha made. I got the burgandy 1100s I believe and of course SOLD IT to get another Rick. Anyway, Paul loved the way it recorded and used it on several albums. Back to the Egg was a great Yamaha album... free to Paul meant OK I'll try it.
