I don't see any legal reason why JH has to be consulted on whether or not you can make these. RIC never made these to begin with. As far as improvements go, I set up two of these and found that a couple of the saddles needed to be slotted right on their edges, so location of the saddle screws and/or the widths of some of the saddles needs to be altered from the original design.

Thanks, Dane. Can you send a picture so I can get an idea of how much adjustment needs done?

Great news! If another run of these happens, I would be in for one.
Thanks

I doubt if I ever need another bridge, but spare sadles would not hurt..

Kevin......When I slot a standard 4-saddle RIC bridge for 8-string use, I space the strings by about 3mm. Given the thickness of the E and A strings, this becomes an issue when slotting your 8-saddle bridges, so you'd need to make the E and A fundamental saddles a bit wider on the bottom, or treble side, and the E and A octave saddles a bit narrower on the upper, or bass side. I think this would be the easiest solution to the problem.

All: On my Ric 8 String (2000) the spacing seems a bit tight. Sometimes difficult the finger without some of the pairs touching and negating the whole double string effect. Anybody else have this problem? And does 3mm fix that? Michael

Or, instead of all that trouble, you could buy a Schaller bridge and put it on a 4004L

If I had a 4004/8, I would totally do that. However, since I have a 4003/8...

... and to think that maybe Chris Squire would have kept his 4008 if he could get his hands on such a bridge.

If you use the SIT eight string set of strings an eight saddle bridge is not so vital.
The SIT strings intone well and are the correct gauges for a Rickenbacker... I now use them on all of my octave basses...

SITs are nice. I use the D'Addario EXL220 for the fundamental strings and then single strings about half the diameter. this is just about the sames as the SITs I believe. I usually tune to E.

Through Bass Strings Online you can get them made up to any gauge you like..
I had BEAD sets made up by them..
