My first sixties 4001

Post by berth »

Last week there was this 4001 on our well known Dutch advertisement site marktplaats.nl . Original jack plate was gone unfortunately, but when I deduct features I think it must be '69. Mono output, no Horsie, no skunk stripe where the most important items in deduction.

The bad's are: McCartney'ized, Lousy paint job, no serial, TRC misses paint.
The good's are: Sounds good and plays good for a reasonable price. :)

I am considering new body wings with CB and a paint job at some time, but will play it for a while first.

Hmmm, full length MOP and no binding on the body... I'm by far no expert, but you may want to take a closer one at this one...

Or is the binding painted over?

Personally, I'd leave it as it is. It is pretty cool as is.

A refinish maybe...

To me FWMOP and binding belong together. ;-)

Cool find. 8) I too, would just leave it as is, for a while anyway, and just enjoy the bass. I like the pickups surround, there haven't been many show up with these square cornered surrounds.

Congrats! If it is playing and feeling good, I think I'd just consider a refin and be done with it. Regardless of what you end up doing with it, a great find and cool project!

That is the original color. And I am considering it, but I am considering JG even more as a JG with binding is somewhere on my wish list for quite some time now. ;-)

It was originally Azureglo???? Ouch. :( I know what you mean about JG though, that's still on my hit list '72-wise.

How does it sound?
