I believe that white pickguard has been on that bass since day one--100% original. I owned 2 different '61s that were the same way, white p/g, gold TRC.

Hi guys, I have been away for a few days and was going to register the bass, but it looks like someone beat me to it, so thanks for that. Now that the dust has settled a bit, I think the smart thing for me to do would be to get this bass insured. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about getting an accurate appraisal?

Well, that's a bit unfair, wouldn't you agree?

Okay, fess up, who denied our new member the pleasure of registering his own instrument?

I see it shows up as a Collected Instrument (CI). Hmm.............

As much as I would like to take the credit - it wasn't me...

Send a PM to Peter (ADMIN) or Gil (GibsonLP) and they will assign the entry to you.

And just to add to the thread this 1961 450 on Craigslist also has a Gold TRC and White pickguard

The two '61 4001's that are listed in the register are actually one in the same bass.

The AK685 listing is an error. It's the same bass as AK678...take a look at the wear to the right of the bridge on both of them.

That makes Ted's bass the second pre '63 4001 know to exist...as far as I know.

More evidence that it is original. Still would like to know if there are any other basses like this.

Hey.
Welcome to the forum and WHAT A BASS! :)
I changed the ownership of the instrument to your user.
Please feel free to add pictures. If you can take high resolution pictures of the headstock/neck/body/full instrument both front and rear and some close ups and upload them to your instrument in the register it would do everyone a great service.
Thanks!
So long and thanks for all the fish!

I uploaded some better pictures to the register. The forum limits the size and quality as I'm sure you know. Hopefully these tell a better story.
