Wishbone Ash and the 21 Fret 4001

Post by Captain Bob »

This OGWT vid was posted some years ago and went missing. Here it is once more featuring Martin Turner's 21 fret 4001.

I remember this guy from the Argus album, but I thought he'd always used a Gibson Thunderbird. What is the tune, I think it was "Time Was" off that album that features some rather adventurous playing on his part! I used to know how to play it, it is a wonderful bassline!

Could be, but I think you're thinking of Sometime World - fantastic bass line!

He was at my place at the end of last year, wanting to buy my 21 fretter. He gets around!

I'll never forget the Sometime World bass line - when I was a kid, I taught myself to play (on a Rick4001!) by learning basslines like this. Obviously I couldn't play it at first, but gradually through perseverance, I managed to play more and more of it until I eventually mastered the whole song.

As a 16 year-old, I was probably posing in front of a mirror at the time! Memories... :)

Ash
Back then we couldn't afford a mirror so I had to contend with the 40' sculpted marble reflecting pool in the front yard.

Man, you had me all choked up until I read the second part!!! And I suppose you had a butler named Jeeves to "see to the Rickenbackers"

Pardon me, but would you happen to have any Grey Poupon? But of course....

Well. Geezer B. was one of my earliest bass playing influences. 8)
