Yamaha RBX4-A2?

Post by RickyBubba »

Anybody had one? I'm intrigued by the concept of the composite (wood) construction technique, and really like the styling of the white/gray scheme. The back of the neck and headstock is gray.

They aren't cheap on e-Bay, but do show up from time to time. Once in a while you can get a decent price on them.

I've been really interested in checking one out,but haven't had the opportunity. Intriguing construction concepts, and it is a very lightweight full scale bass, plus i really like the look of it.
I suspect this may be the same type bass Chris Squire used to record "tall ships" with Squackett, just based on his description of it.

Yeah, I too have suspected that as well, but I was interested before then. The 5-string version doesn't show up very often either. I have yet to see one in person, but haven't been to any decent places to see one either.

Could be fun to have one, and a spare fretless neck to swap on for versatility. I suspect most modern Yammy necks would drop in.

On my list should I get some crazy money back in my pockets!

Isn't this the model where a ring around each knob lights up? There was one of these on the rack at the Best Buy here that has a music department a couple years ago. As I remember it played pretty well, and sounded like your typical modern bass with active electronics.

Which is pretty amazing for a passive bass... :D,although i think the passive pickups on my 4004's and my Gibson EB obtain similar results, too.

The battery compartment is just for the lights....always thought it was weird they only lit up the 2 vols, and not the tone control as well.

Wonder why they dropped the construction concept? The lights were novel, and I'm sure the 3rd one could have been rigged up for something, even a mini light show effect. Gimmick yeah, but why not.

I have a BB404 which is already very light, and has a ton of low end punch. If the RBX4-A2 has similar range to the 404, it would be a champ.

I'd love a white one. I don't know if they came in any other finishes....

Nope, those were the only options. I have a BB300 that I have debated doing in white and gray like the A2. I would probably go a step further and lacquer the fretboard just because.

Interesting….I'll have to broaden the search, if just for motivation.
