The compressor on a Line 6 POD 2.0 works very well on achiving the proper sustain characteristics.

Rickenbacker pickups nowadays do tend to sound different than the ones they put out back in the 60's, so it's possible that some of the audible changes you do hear in the vid could simply be accounted for by the different guitars used.
That said, I've always thought that electric 12's should never have round wounds on 'em, but I always thought it was just me.
