Tux WIP
Resurrecting a badly abused Tuxedo that was "hot potatoed" until it reached me. When I saw the extent of the neck issues, I seriously considered just selling the usable parts and taking the loss.
But a fool and his money are soon parted so this baby has received new rods, a carbon fiber reinforcement rod, new fingerboard, new frets and a refin is in progress.
And ~ since it no longer has any "collector's value", I'm going psychedelic.
Photo is pre-clearcoat and the frets cleared of paint. The photo shows a tint that is not there. It is pure white.

Re: Tux WIP
Wow! OK. Uh . . . might take a minute to get used to it, I guess. But, hey, you'll enjoy it, and that's really the idea.

Re: Tux WIP
can't wait to try it out! Is this Tux #2 or 3 for you?
Re: Tux WIP
Hey Chris,
#2, I think. versus 3 Blackstars.

The painter is a manga artist, but how about Peter Max instead? Yellow Submarine!aceonbass wrote:A Tuxedo with the "My Little Pony" finish option....

Re: Tux WIP
No offense, but the paint job looks a little amateurish, they could have just put stickers on it. I’ve seen some swirl painted Ric’s that were absolutely gorgeous, but if you like it, it’s all good. The painted fingerboard May wear through long term unless the put a pretty heavy clearcoat on it.
Re: Tux WIP
That's the standard Tuxedo/Blackstar/Redneck fingerboard. As you suggest, heavy clearcoat required.
This is a stage bass so big, crude images made sense to me, but it is not as gorgeous close up as that famous Eric Clapton guitar etc.

Re: Tux WIP
Finally completed.
The cost of the whole project was MONUMENTAL. Really stupid on my part.
BUT ``` Thanks to the new fingerboard, frets, truss rods and the carbon fiber insert between the rods, this bass has a beautifully flat neck. Awesome.
Now I'm wondering if I should annoy you all off even more by swapping in the Alembic pickup/preamp set.

Not that anyone asked me, but it NEEDS a unicorn.

You are not the first to say that. I guess unicorns are popular now.squirebass wrote:Not that anyone asked me, but it NEEDS a unicorn.
But back in 1967 or so thanks to a bit of blotter, maybe one would have been welcomed. Along with the shooting stars.

Re: Tux WIP
That was my old "Naked Tux," that had some serious fingerboard issues that I never detected. I didn't play it much, so I may never have noticed the fret positions being out of wack. Glad to see that it has been properly resurrected. Not sure about the added graphics, though, but whatever floats your boat. So, no longer the "Naked Tux" - how about "Rainbow Tux"?
