What a fantastic photo! Thank you very much for posting it Brian. I'm thinking Jason's bit of info there makes even more sense - that the whole body was constructed of itself. Although it would seem to me that DK could have sawed off the top horn of the bass and made the 12 string body separately and then attached them. And I think what has always puzzled those of us who noticed is how he joined a hollow body and a soild body together. But then again, I wonder if the twelve string is a true hollow body or a "half hollow".

Just discovered this website. Great discussion of his double-necks here. But still doesn't confirm if the 360 12 string was modified and attached to the bass. I know it's not important Jason, but that's what makes it so fun!!!

But get a load of this website: this guy is currently producing a close reproduction of the MR Ricky double-neck. (Though I noticed the nameplates read"Britenbacker"!) I wonder what RIC has to say about it. Maybe we should ask this guy what he thinks about the original, eh?

I think that "thetopguitars" site must be Chinese copy junk or something... those are complete garbage. I paid $200 for one of those Rutherfords and it was so awful I gave it away... and felt bad!!!!

Mine is a '66 360/12 and a '72 4001, and Larry Davis basically made a mostly whole new body with a faux soundhole - meaning its' a real hole you can stick your finger in (unlike those Gretsch painted-on f-holes) but the cavity only extends an inch or two in each direction to make the body appear hollow.
