New Ric day - 4003 British Racing Green
Had a little bit of cash knocking about and thought id bite the bullet and get one! Always loved BRG as a finish - that and Burgundy are my two fave colours.
Played it at a gig on Friday, really clear sound - quite high gain through my SVT though so had to dial it back a bit. The band love it already...
Anyway, on to the photos...

Dang, that’s gorgeous, my favorite color of all time. My dad had an Austin Healey in BRG when I was a kid. That’s my favorite custom so far. They really should make that a standard color.

Beautiful! I've got my eye on one of these now, just have to bite the bullet myself. The million dollar question is, given a previous thread, any paint bubbling at the bridge?

Color matched guardian, eh?

Gosh, and I'd forgotten those beauties have checkerboard binding as well! Makes it that much more of a classic IMHO....
And it also comes with Silver case? Sweet!

That is the nicest looking new bass I've seen in a long time!
Absolutely stunning!

I’ve got to second this. Much as I like them, I had no real desire to buy a new Ric until these came out; I was perfectly happy with my 2 x ‘72s. But these really are a game changer.teeder wrote:That is the nicest looking new bass I've seen in a long time!

No bubbing at all near the bridge... I had that on my JG 4003S but not a hint of it here at all.
It plays really well... but there's a certain amount of fret buzz on the A string between the first and 6th frets. Truss rod / neck adjustment required? It had quite a low action when it arrived... Ive brought the bridge up a bit but that hasnt made any difference to the frett buzz issue. All the other strings are fine.

Re: New Ric day - 4003 British Racing Green
The bridge height is eliminated, and if raising that didn't solve the problem I doubt you're looking at a high or unseated 7th fret.... so my first step would be to inspect the other 2 points of regular adjustment.CatHead wrote:It plays really well... but there's a certain amount of fret buzz on the A string between the first and 6th frets. To check the nut height I like to fret the 3rd fret, and make sure there is a SLIGHT gap between the 1st fret and the string.
To see relief/bow, I hold the instrument in playing position, and fret at the 1st with my fretting hand, and around the body joint with the pinky of my picking hand (poof! you've turned your string into a flexible straightedge). While holding the string down, I look and tap around the 7th-9th fret with the thumb of my picking hand to see how much gap/bow I'm dealing with between string 7th-9th and fret.
I generally like to see a gap about the thickness of cardstock, a thin'ish pick...(everyone plays different). If you're seeing a gap the thickness of pocket change or larger I'd tighten the rods, if you see no gap, and you don't hear a little 'clinkclink' as you're tapping your thumb against the 7th-9th, then you are into back bow and need to loosen the rod. Also... Lefty loosy, righty tighty.
Re: New Ric day - 4003 British Racing Green
My 4004 was a bit like that when I got it. The neck was just a bit backbowed. Only takes a minute to sort out, assuming there's nothing else going on.
