That cool little Carvin bass is the same as one played by Gabriel Roth (a/k/a Bosco Mann), bassist for the Dap-Kings.

Yep, that's the bass...not sure what year he's got but they are cool basses. Really nice range of sounds and a joy to play!

If anybody's interested, a number of us from another forum had a get-together last year and did a blind test, which included my '64 Ric and a reissue "S" model.

(Sadly, I didn't even get my own bass!)

Looks like the person who started this thread about the '85 MG V63 now has it up for sale for $3500. I guess it didn't work out for him afterall.

So, he bought it just to flip it?

Judging by his enthusiasm in his posts, I think he wanted to like it....I can certainly relate.

But, I think he got it for @$3K or less and now is trying to sell for $3.5K. His perogative, I guess.

Seems like he paid way too much for it, or are V63s really commanding that kind of money, these days?

I've seen them for $2,500, which places them a bit out of reach for me, sadly.

$2500 is more in line with the mid-upper end of the scale; $3500 is way beyond, I believe.

Before you guys rip me a new A$$hole, I had something come up...unexpectedly...Personal...It's no one's business...
But the bass IS a fine and RARE instrument and I wouldn't sell it if I didn't have too...So I'm asking a fair price INCLUDING Packing Materials: Box, Tape, Peanuts, Strapping Tape... $3500 Insured Shipping Fees, Reverb Fees and Paypal fees, of which no-one seems to take into consideration of how much things actually cost to ship.

Andy Baxter on Reverb is asking Over $3500 for a later one....and mine is the first year with the Mag Horseshoe...so quit your internet Sodomy and understand that serious things can happen in a person's life and you really Need to back the F off and quit judging because you really don't know why I have to sell this.

I was thinking getting this bass off the original reverb listing 2 yrs ago. I ended up getting my '80 4001FL instead.

First of all, of course it's none of our business why you decide to sell it. I truly wish you the best of luck with what you're going through.

I noticed that Andy Baxter is located in the UK. As rickenbackers are quite rare in Europe, the prices seem to be a good bit higher than in the US. Though the early ones with magnetic horseshoe is more valued than the later one from the 90's on this forum, I'm not sure if that is true here when I look on the prices being asked.
