RM1999's, as well as all 60's Ricks had the .0047uF Turquoise cap (of which I found a batch NOS!), but V63's didn't have them. Every authentic 60's Rick I ever saw under the guard on had the cap, but I'm sure a lot of people took them out once they figured out how much their bottom end would improve.I think C64's had them though. I like the cap, and would keep it in the bass, activated by a push-pull, then have the RIHS pickup unwound to about 8k as Jeff suggests.
Re: Lets talk about horseys
That would be best. Then, or before doing that work, sell the V63 to Kevin, as that would be your good samaritan deed of the year for all mankind, really.

The best thing to do is sell that nasty old '91 V63 to me! I've been looking for one of them without much luck.I own myself a 4001CS and a V63,both from '91.
Actually, the CS's and V63's did not have caps and I'm pretty sure the C64's didn't also, though I've never had one of those.
The C64's had lower windings in the pu's, which I'm sure helps clean up their tone.
Thank you Kevin.
I know about,that all V63 and CS's didn't have the caps.
But the C64 and C64S have one.
On the other side a V63 have 250k and 500k pots while a C64(S) all have 330k pots.
Well maybe I would sell my 91' V63.
BUT only,if I could get a C64(S) .
As a big Macca and Squire fan,it would be nice to own both

Thank you Jeffrey, jps wrote:You want to put the currently produced scatterwound toaster in the 4001CS and unwind the horseshoe to around 8K Ω or so.soundcity5150 wrote:I'm asking because I wanna try to have my Ricks as close as possible to the older one.

Before I would experiment with my CS,I first try on another Rick.
By the way,I'd never unwound my 12k horseshoes, because they sound so very nice in addition with the 3rd cap.
For this I'll take the newer 10,5k shoes.
And before I sell the V63 to Kevin,I first have to buy a C64(S).
But this seems to be impossible.I cannot find one .

This helped me very much.
This means, that the older Ricks from the 60's had also the 3rd cap.
Then the shoes must be sounded very bright and thin,if they only had 8k in adition with the cap ?
Did I understood you correctly that you know have the original turquoise caps in stock ?

I take it you mean either C64 or C64S. If that's true, just hop on over to this forum board to find the former.
Re: Lets talk about horseys
I have a recording of my V63 with the '60s horseshoe pickup (cap in place), running though combinations of the pickups (scatterwound toast solo'd, scatterwound toast and HSPU together, and HSPU solo'd). The file is too large to post here, though.soundcity5150 wrote:Then the shoes must be sounded very bright and thin,if they only had 8k in adition with the cap ?

And I would buy it at once, really.
But unfortunately I'm from EU (Germany).
That means high shipping and customs fees, VAT.etc ...
And if CITES Papers also not included, then trouble is big.
Somehow it's almost Impossible to get a C64(S) here in Europe.
But a V63 you can get there more often.

Great .
Re: Lets talk about horseys
But does the Lollar unit drop right into the RIHS surround?
Re: Lets talk about horseys
My old Lollar HS dropped right in. Don't know about the new version but I would think it would. Why make a replacement part and not have it replace? The web site says it's a drop in:

They are on FaceBook... you can always drop them a line. They are very nice and easy to work with.

Re: Lets talk about horseys
This was my understanding too, that the C Series basses had lower output pickups as well as having the cap. Am I correct in believing that both pickups on the C are lower output?
Re: Lets talk about horseys
I believe so.
The C64 should have a scatterwound toaster, but maybe later V63's had them too.
I've forgot some of this stuff through the years.
