The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
Looks like a Gibson 335 12 string here. Sounds a little like the Byrds.

Re: The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
You have to love, especially, the Ron Elliot compositions of Just A Little and Laugh Laugh. A nice folk rock mix of acoustic and electric guitars and some tasty harmonies. The 12 string acoustic work on Laugh Laugh is excellent. Alas they would, like so many shooting stars, fade quickly. I do not think they were a Rickenbacker group though.

Nathan. Thanks for the photo documentation. This information is much appreciated. Rickenbackerish indeed. Good one.

Thanks Peter. Another example of procrastination leading to accomplishment.
Other fine photos at Getty Images show the band in black and white with a Harmony twelve string acoustic and/or matching Vox (UK) Clubman guitar and bass.

Re: The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
A little more on the Beau Brummels. The previous pictures that include the Rick are likely of Don Irving, who joined the band in late '65. Staples Stage is in Staples High School located in West Port, Connecticut. The Beau Brummels kicked off a year or two of student promoted concerts that also included the Animals, the Yardbirds (with Jimmy Page), Cream, the Doors and others. There's a documentary and plenty of stuff on line about the happenings there. Here's a poster of the event:
Here's a photo with Sal Valentino playing a Rickenbacker 450:

The sleuthing continues. Thanks Nathan. Just think how helpful it would have been for us it the original poster-makers had taken the time to include the year!

Re: The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
What's interesting to me is how much quality work the band did in such a short amount of time. My main experience with the Beau Brummels music is the greatest hits comp on Rhino Records, first on vinyl then the slightly extpanded cd. The typical one hit wonder band has the big one and a few also rans. With these guys Laugh Laugh is the calling card and it's backed up with a whole cd of really good music. Ron Elliott's writing and playing and Sal Valentino's voice are really strong. Sly Stewart's production and guidance early on seem to have been crucial as well.
I'm not too concerned about the year on the poster...if it's genuine it has to be 1965 due to the circumstances surrounding the band's history. The hardest thing for me is distinguishing faces that aren't familiar.
I love the Alfred E. Newman poster!

Re: The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
Yes 1965 is surely close to the truth. I was surprised that the first album was produced by Sly Stone (Sylvester Stewart), lead singer of Sly and the Family Stone. I did not see that one coming.

Re: The Beau Brummels - Don't Talk To Strangers
The Beau Brummels cameoed in the 1965 cult classic, Village of the Giants. Jack Nitzsche provided the theme. Freddy Cannon, Ron Howard and Johnny Crawford were in there too. Saw it when it came out, haven't seen it since. Think I'll have a puff and watch it again.Don't let democracy end democracy.
