Strings for 360/12 (now that TI flats are no more)

Post by Axelorox »

Now that Pick of the Ricks is closing down, what are the best flatwound strings for a vintage sound from a 360/12 with toaster pickups?

My 360/12 will ship out to me in March. I was originally planning on stringing with the PotR TI flats custom set, but it's no longer available on their site and I'm not optimistic about them getting more before they close in a month.

I am looking to avoid Pyramid due to the high tension issues.

You can still buy TI flats individually from Just Strings and put your own custom set together. They're pricey, but those on both my twelves were installed in 2008 and still sound just fine.

You can get TI Flats from juststrings.com They are sold individually and you can make up a set just like Chris used to make at POTR.

Can't you buy a few sets before Chris shuts down? A set on your guitar can last years. If you buy three or four right now you should be good for a lifetime.

POTR is out of stock of the TI Flats 12-string sets.

Good idea, Ron. Thanks for posting the details here.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Times like these, I wish I had a retail store.

You can buy Curt Mangan strings from Curt. That's what POTR did, right? I'm sorry Chris is closing the store, but I guess it was inevitable.

Is this an opportunity to try other brands and gauges?

I lucked out. Ordered a set in late February. They are great strings.

I stocked up on the T-I sets awhile ago and have a few left.

I also have a few of the old Rickenbacker "Red Box" flatwound 6 and 12 string sets.

FYI - Chris from POTR has a new site that sells strings, including the TI flats.

Check out ricstrings.com.

Yes, thanks for that info.
Chris's 12 string sets for older 12 string Rics are a great help.

Does anyone know a source in the UK for the TI set? I've looked at both ricstrings.com and individual strings on juststrings.com and it adds up to a lot of money when shipping to UK is included - and also no doubt the lovely people at Her Majesty's Excise and Duty will add on their fees

Thanks

EDIT: Never mind I managed to find a source of individual TI strings from a UK stockist and it's comparable to other 12 string flat wound sets.
